We worship God every Sunday at 8:45 AM using the 1928 Book of Common Prayer with an abbreviated Morning Prayer service followed by Holy Communion. On high holidays we use the Anglican Missal.
Many in our parish find great comfort in saying The Daily Offices of Morning and
Evening Prayer. The new prayer book offers simple orders for Prime (First Hour), Sext (Sixth Hour or Midday), and Compline (after Evensong, before bedtime) as well. Here are the proper monastic prayers that many people
say before reciting the Daily Office. They help to quiet the mind and focus it before beginning. Traditionally, the "Triple Prayer" is
said silently...the "Prayers before the Office" are done out loud.
When done as a public Office or in a group, the singular can be changed to
plural: "Open our mouths, O Lord, to bless thy Holy Name. Cleanse our
minds..." etc.
The Prayers Before the Office
Open my mouth, O Lord, to bless Thy holy Name; cleanse my mind from all vain, evil, and distracting thoughts; enlighten my affection and kindle my will; that I may recite this Office with attention and devotion and so deserve to be heard in the presence of Thy divine Majesty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
O Lord, in union with that divine intention with which Thou didst praise God on earth, I offer to Thee this Office.
The Offices themselves with the proper Psalms and Lessons are available here.
Specific information on our services each week is published in the Wednesday edition of the Green Valley News.
